A Word From Philip De Courcy
NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH
Welcome to Know The Truth! The passion and purpose of this ministry is to acclaim and proclaim God’s eternal truth as found in Scripture, centered upon the person and work of Jesus Christ, God’s Son.
Today is no different from the past. The prophet Isaiah said, “Truth is fallen in the street” (Isaiah 59:14). The prevailing worldview in our society is built upon the pillars of rationalism, relativism and pluralism. As such, the very notion of true truth or transcendent truth seems to evoke an allergic reaction. For many, the only absolute is the absence of absolutes altogether.
We are told that truth is relative and elastic. Truth varies from person to person and place to place. No one has a corner on truth! In fact, the one-size-fits-all approach to truth is considered arrogant and dangerous. For example, several months after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, former president Bill Clinton addressed the student body of Georgetown University and laid some of the blame for the attacks on America’s “arrogant self-righteousness.” Reacting to the danger of fundamentalism in all its forms, Clinton suggested if only all parties involved could realize that there is no such a thing as absolute truth, perhaps conflicts and catastrophes like this could be avoided in the future. He said to the students at Georgetown: “Nobody’s got the truth … You’re at a university which basically believes that no one ever has the whole truth, ever … We are incapable of ever having the whole truth.” Truth has, indeed, fallen in the street. Man continues to suppress the truth about truth, ever learning but never learning (Romans 1:18; 2 Timothy 3:7).
At Know The Truth, we are steadfastly committed to celebrating and communicating the life-transforming fact that God desires all men to come to a saving knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:4). Truth is Christianity’s most enduring asset. It is a historic Christian conviction that God, as revealed in Scripture and explained in Jesus Christ, is the only source of truth (John 17:3). God is real and the center of all reality. Life is His gift, this world His creation, and history His story. We are, therefore, capable of knowing the whole truth because the only true God has revealed Himself in the pages of Scripture and has become concrete in history in the person of Jesus Christ (John 17:17; 1:18). God can be known. He has made Himself known for that purpose and in coming to know the one true God truth can truly be known. Truth can be known and truth must be known or our lives become a lie before God and we ultimately deceive ourselves. Truth which is to be found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ puts something under our feet to walk on and provides a foundation upon which to build our lives (Matthew 7:24-29). None of us can afford to ignore the truth about our sin, the truth about God’s love for us in the death and resurrection of His Son on our behalf, and the truth about our pressing need to put faith alone in Christ alone for salvation (John 3:16-21; 14:6). It is in recognizing our true selves apart from grace and apart from God and repenting and trusting in Christ that true life really begins. Jesus said, “you shall know The truth and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32).
Rabindranath Tagore, the son of the Maharishi, became a gifted composer and poet. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913. He said this … “I have on my table a violin string. It is free. I twist one end of it and it responds. It is free. But it is not free to do what a violin string is supposed to do – to produce music. So I take it, fix it in my violin, and tighten it until it is taut. Only then is it free to be a violin string.” A life attached to Jesus Christ is the only life that can know true freedom. We were made by God, for God and life cannot be truly lived apart from the God who has made Himself known in the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ!
At Know The Truth, we want others to experience and embrace this liberating truth, as well. Please pray for us. And please partner with us as we share the good news with others.
In Christ Alone,
Philip De Courcy
